1. Limited Assortment Grocery
- High-volume retailers of dry and perishable grocery products
- Assortment of products limited to high sku velocity
- Expanding non-food sections
- Examples are ALDI, Save-A-Lot, ALPS
2. Convenience Discounters
- Often located in strip malls
- Sell mostly general merchandise
- Some food and perishables
- Retail pricing is simplified: $1.00, $1.50, $2.00, $2.50, etc.
- Examples are Dollar General, Family Dollar and Fred's
3. Dollar Stores
- Sell general merchandise, dry grocery and perishables at a single price point: $1.00 or 99¢
- Assortment includes closeout merchandise
- Examples are Deals Nothing Over a Dollar, Dollar Tree, 99¢ Only
4. Closeout
- Specializing in closeout prices and excess inventory product
- Examples are Big Lots, Grocery Outlet
